Pittosporum ralphii is a hardy, evergreen native shrub or small tree ideal for hedging, screening, and native planting projects across New Zealand. Known for its narrow, grey-green leaves and upright form, it typically grows to 4–6 metres tall and 3–4 metres wide. The foliage has a subtle silver tone, which softens the appearance of dense planting and adds contrast to green-dominated gardens. In spring, small dark red to purple flowers appear, offering seasonal interest and attracting native insects.
Vitex lucens, commonly known as Puriri, is a NZ native tree featuring colourful flowers. The tubular flowers range in colour from fluorescent pink to dark red, rose pink, and sometimes white. The flowers in spring are followed by red berries which, along with the nectar in the flowers, are great for attracting birds. The tree itself grows to about 10 m tall and 6 m wide with dark and glossy green foliage. Vitex lucens is commonly grown as a specimen, used in revegetation plantings, planted to attract birds, or added to a mixed planting in a larger garden.
