Commonly known as Kanuka, this is a fast growing, NZ native tree. It features small, dark green leaves which release a pleasant fragrance when touched or in a light breeze. Small, white flowers are borne in abundance through summer and are great for attracting birds and bees. This evergreen typically grows to 8 m tall and 4 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It prefers to grow in full sun or partial shade and will cope with almost any soil, barring the extremes of wet and dry. It is tolerant of drought, frost, cool climates, coastal environments, and wind. Kanuka is commonly grown for shelter, clipped into a slender hedge, or used in native revegetation and riparian plantings.
