Commonly known as the Hedge Maple, this deciduous tree features lush foliage and great form. The glossy leaves emerge light green in spring, darken quickly, then develop colourful yellow tones in autumn before falling. The tree grows with an upright and rounded habit to about 10 m tall and 7 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and is hardy to dry periods, frost, cool climates, and moderate wind. The Hedge Maple is commonly grown as a specimen, used in avenue plantings, planted to provide shade and shelter, or clipped into a hedge. The lovely stature, hardy nature, and fresh colours of this tree makes it very popular.
