Lippia triphylla, commonly known as Lemon Verbena, is a shrub grown for its foliage and flowers. The glossy, green leaves are slightly rough to the touch and emit a powerful lemon scent when bruised. Sprays of tiny, purple flowers are borne from spring through summer. It is deciduous in cool climates but will tend to remain evergreen in warmer regions. In warm climates it will reach 2 m tall and the same wide and it can be contained with trimming. Best performance with this plant is achieved when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. Lippia triphylla is commonly included in a mixed planting, grown as a culinary herb, added to a cottage garden, or planted anywhere the fragrance and flowering this plant affords can be appreciated.
