Aechmea fasciata is a colourful Bromeliad that features both showy flowers and foliage. The leaves are thick and leathery, and striped with silver and dark green. They are borne as a crown and result in plant that typically grows to 40 cm tall and the same wide. It produces a large and showy flower spike made up of bright pink flowers in autumn. This herbaceous perennial grows best when planted in partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will tolerate a light frost only and should not be allowed to dry out. This Bromeliad is commonly maintained in a container, included in a tropical garden, added to a mixed planting, planted around outdoor living areas, or used to border an entranceway.
