“Golden Queen” is a very popular variety of peach due to its large and tasty fruit. It produces yellow-orange skinned fruit in summer which have juicy, yellow flesh. The fruit originate from pink blossoms which adorn the tree in spring. It grows upright with a vase shape bearing lush, green foliage. As autumn progresses, the leaves develop colourful yellow tones before falling. This deciduous tree typically grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary which is usually done soon after the fruit has been picked. Best yields are achieved with this variety when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site that has good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring will reduce the yield. “Golden Queen” is often added to mixed plantings, grown as a specimen, or planted specifically for fruit production. It does not need another variety planted nearby to produce fruit.
