“Karaka Black” is a variety of Blackberry grown for its heavy crops of large-sized fruit. The black fruit in summer are juicy and result from white flowers produced in spring on two-year old stems. It grows as a climber with the stems hosting mid-green foliage. In cooler climates it may become deciduous during winter but will otherwise remain evergreen. It typically grows to 1.8 m tall and 1.5 m wide on a support structure or will sprawl across the ground if unsupported. Best fruiting performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and short periods of dry. “Karaka Black” is commonly grown for fruit production, trained along a fence or other support structure, or planted to attract birds.
